HOUSING DELIVERY

The Government is committed to a ‘step change’ in the delivery of new housing in the East of England through its Sustainable Communities Plan.

West Stevenage can help to achieve this objective:

  • In terms of housing delivery, West Stevenage is the most advanced major strategic housing site in the East of England.
  • It is identified in the adopted Hertfordshire County Council Structure Plan, the emerging Stevenage Borough Local Plan (now approved for adoption) and the draft Regional Spatial Strategy for the East of England as a strategic housing requirement link to Planning Policy
  • It has the capability to provide 3,600 new dwellings and associated infrastructure improvements and community facilities by 2011, and a total of 5,000 new dwellings by 2015
  • In the longer term, expansion at West Stevenage has the potential to create up to 10,000 new homes, as identified in the adopted structure plan.
